On Money
I can't believe we were taught, "Money is the root of all evil" in our younger days. No wonder most of us are so bad at personal finance management. You raise generation after generation with this misperception and expect them to act wisely with their money? Isn't it just another tool that generates results based on how we use it?
I know so many people who make a good amount of money considering their age but if you ask me how many of them are good at keeping/increasing it, I will name a maximum of five people. You might hang out with a smarter group than I do (chances are high. My friends are pretty dumb) but I don't think it will be more than 10% of our friend circle who are really good at saving/investing. We treat money like it's an evil thing. We think if we give money to our kids, they will waste it on stupid stuff. How can we expect kids to act responsibly when we don't even bother to teach the kids how to manage it? These kids become grownups with bad financial habits which affect their whole life.
You need money to buy food for the hungry, you need money to buy medicine for the sick, and you need money to build businesses/communities/countries. Yes, I agree a lot of bad things happen because of money but that happens because of the intention, not the tool. This reminds me of a dialogue from Top Gun, "It's not the plane, it's the pilot". Shouldn't we focus on building great pilots rather than keep telling the plane's gonna crash and kill everyone?
